Four Nights of Late Night Sounds

The plan:

“They say that deadlines focus the mind; foster creativity. Well, let’s see. I get home from work after 7, eat, do the chores that need doing, then it’s time for music. At 6.00 am the next morning, the alarm goes off and we start again.

For four nights in March 2013, I will try to start and finish a song each night and compile it as an EP. I might use this opportunity to head out of my usual style a bit, but there are sure to be some deeper grooves in there somewhere.

So, a few nights of little sleep, but hopefully four completed tracks, but expect some rough edges; let’s say that those are caused by all the soul. Catch you on the flip side…”

Two days into things so far, and two tracks up on Amazing Tunes, two more to go and still just about awake…

Grassmarket Jazz- New Deep House EP Release on Deep Nota

Image

“Fynn Callum’s latest release on Deep Nota maintains his reputation for jazz-infused deep house grooves. These two tracks are at that perfect foot-tapping and head-nodding tempo that fits that late-night bar vibe, keeping the hipsters and the jazzers happy.

In the opening track, Grassmarket Jazz, floating electric piano chords provide the foundation for the jazz guitar and horn section, with that old-school jazz sound remembered with those familiar upright bass sounds. The second track, Decision Waiting, takes things a little bit more late-night, driven by a growling house-organ bass and a heavier groove, tempered by a delicious soulful vocal and smooth trumpet line.

This latest release from Edinburgh’s Fynn Callum takes us back to the soulful, jazzy roots of deep house.”

Grassmarket Jazz is released exclusively on Traxsource on 11th January 2013 and is on general release on your outlet of choice from January the 25th.

Dharbour (Original Mix)- Animal Picnic

Released on 1st October on Delicious Recordings, Dharbour is the second track from the Bean City EP from Animal Picnic and I love it. In some ways I wish I didn’t, but I just do. Those incredibly 80s sounding synth chords and the bassline just work for me. Yes, it has a hint of Beverley Hills Cop-era cheese about it, but I have been listening to this over and over again recently. This is going on the next mix I think!
